17th President of the United States ANDREW JOHNSON undated authentic autograph album page with scarce "Military Governor of Tenn" inscription below in an unknown hand.
Johnson was appointed Military Governor of Tennessee by Abraham Lincoln in 1862. Johnson subsequently freed his slaves in 1863, and would go on to emancipate the slaves of Tennessee the following year in 1864. Later that same year, Johnson was a logical choice as running mate for Lincoln, who wished to send a message of national unity in his re-election campaign, becoming Vice President on March 4, 1865.
An injury to President Johnson's arm prevented him from signing the majority of documents during his presidency, many signatures purported to be authentically signed are actually engraved with a facsimile Andrew Johnson signature. This is a great opportunity to own a hand-signed autograph from Johnson.
