Union Army Sergeant and Lincoln avenger THOMAS P. "BOSTON" CORBETT scarce, large and authentic bold iron gall ink autograph on card with Romans 5:8 Bible verse handwritten by Corbett on the back. Corbett who found consolation in religion following the murder of Booth seemingly acknowledges his sins writing "while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us".

Corbett has signed his name on one side and on the back wrote:

CORBETT, a Union Officer, shot and killed ABRAHAM LINCOLN's assassin, JOHN WILKES BOOTH on April 26, 1865 after one of the largest manhunts in history. Corbett was initially arrested for disobeying orders, but was later released and considered a hero by the media and public for avenging the martyred President's death. Increasingly erratic, Corbett disappeared around 1888 and circumstantial evidence suggests that he later died in the Great Hinckley Fire in Minnesota in 1894.
 
Card measures approx. 3.25"x2", overall encapsulate measures 5.25"x3". Streaks of staining over "ton Corb" area of signature. Paper-loss around edges of the reverse of the card. It appears someone has restroked parts of the line "5th Cpr 8th V".
