"THE GREAT GATSBY" author, novelist, and short story writer, F. SCOTT FITZGERALD incredibly scarce remarkable autograph ORIGINAL POEM in response to a birth announcement from a literary acquaintance. Fitzgerald writes a brief poem on the back of the birth announcement of Michael Gregory Gingrich, (the son of Arnold Gingrich who was the Editor and co-founder of Esquire Magazine).
It would appear that the Gingrich's may have hedged their bets on whether it would be a a boy or a girl until the baby was born – and planned for both eventualities in one announcement.
Noting that, Fitzgerald mischievously pens in blue ink fountain pen: "For Michael's Baby Book (if they have such things) My advice is that you should strive / For Laurian Jane (who didn't arrive) / – But a boy is the best that you could do / So – Michael Gregory – Here's To You! F. Scott Fitzgerald".
Widely considered one of the greatest authors of the 20th century, Fitzgerald is also among the scarcest and most highly sought after literary autographs, having died at the relatively young age of just 44 years old. Additionally, while Fitzgerald achieved popular success during his lifetime, it wasn't until after his death that he achieved critical acclaim and widespread popularity.
