The envelope is HAND ADDRESSED and SIGNED by Garfield to his long time friend, Bruke Hindsdale who was President of Hiram College. Hindsdale later wrote "The Republican text-book" during the election of 1880, speaking favorably of Garfield. Garfield has handwritten the abbreviation for President "Presd." in his hand as well.
