Second President of the United States JOHN ADAMS exceedingly scarce authentic handwritten AUTOGRAPH note signed "John Adams" dated July 16th 1765 in handsome 11"x16" framed display. The note is addressed to Ebenezer Thayer (Braintree's Representative to the Crown), who Adams would write to two months later opposing the Stamp Act.
Note reads:
"Braintree (MA) July 19th 1765 Rec'd of John Adams Five Pounds and seven pence in full for an execution as Ebenezer Thayer returnable to July Ct."
Ebenezer Thayer Esq. was Braintree Massachusetts representative at the time and also the person who John Adams addressed the Braintree Instructions to. The Braintree Instructions opposed the Stamp tax that residents had been paying to the British crown. This note was written two months before the Braintree Instructions which is widely regarded as the earliest form of protest in British America to officially reject the authority of Parliament over the colonies, second only to the Virginia Resolves.
Sale includes accompanying original COA from the highly-respected JSA (James Spence Authentication) who have thoroughly examined the autograph and certify its authenticity.
