Legendary United States President THOMAS JEFFERSON hand-signed card, given to, and carried by a slave at his Monticello estate. Jefferson pens "a bar of iron 1 1/4 lb square TH:J. Mr. Leitch, apr.9.25"

Jefferson often sent his slaves with small note cards like this along with written instructions for items he wanted obtained from James Leitch who was a merchant in Charlottesville, VA. This is one example of such a note card. Less than 100 of these cards have been identified to exist, less than a dozen of them are currently in private hands.
