18th President of the United States ULYSSES S. GRANT handwritten two page letter signed. OVER 120 WORDS ENTIRELY IN GRANT'S HAND, and boldly signed as "US Grant" in MINT/ NM signature by the legendary Commanding General of the Union Army.

Dated New York, October 30, 1882. Addressed to Frederick W. Griffin, secretary of the New England Manufacturers' and Mechanics' Institute in Boston, Grant apologizes for the delay in responding and accepts an invitation to view "its present exhibition of industries."

Folds consistent with age, use and wear, as shown. A 1" tear at the lower edge of page 2, which does not affect the text, has been previously mended with clear tape. Scattered foxing.

NOTE: All SIGNATURIST-INK displays feature archivally mounted documents. This acid-free museum-grade mounting tape releases safely with simply a drop of water.

A handsome and impressive addition to the den or office of the Civil War buff or autograph collector.
