Abraham Lincoln Section of Bloodstained Fabric From his Deathbed


ABRAHAM LINCOLN Scarce assassination deathbed artifact from the sheet upon which he lay in his final hours in a handsome, oversized vintage framed display. This rare relic was obtained by Charles K. Tuckerman (1821 - 1896), an author, politician and American Minister to Greece who was in Washington at the time of Lincoln's assassination. Removed from an original, larger mounted section of linen cloth found in Tuckerman's papers featuring his initialed provenance, "Relic from the death bed of Abraham Lincoln, stained with his blood. Taken from his death chamber. C.K.T."


This smaller section of the sheet measures appx. 5/8" x 1". Color copy of the original sheet and Tuckerman's provenance is included in addition to a copy of a letter from the respected autograph dealer, Mary Benjamin on Walter R. Benjamin letterhead stating "...it is a piece of the linen sheet taken from Lincoln's deathbed in the Peterson House [across the street from Ford's Theater]...It came to me with the Charles K. Tuckerman papers....[Tuckerman was] in Washington at the time of Lincoln's death..." An important relic with excellent provenance, and a must for any Lincoln collector. An investment-quality historical artifact for any historical collection.


A 0.5" x 8" piece of fabric from the same sheet and with the same provenance sold Heritage sold for $15,000 in 2022. 


Condition is as shown, artifact is framed under glass. Vintage framed display measures appx. 16.5" x 25", and exhibits typical wear associated with display and handling.
