ABRAHAM LINCOLN Autograph Handwritten Lawyer Note Signature Signed PSA President

16th President of the United States, ABRAHAM LINCOLN lengthy handwritten note, circa 1850, signed at conclusion in full as, "Abraham Lincoln". Lincoln cites the names of a number of parties in an ongoing legal dispute. Notably, Lincoln handwritten notes are incredibly scarce and those featuring his full signature at the conclusion are of the upmost rarity. Most items on the market constitute signed documents - very few handwritten notes and letters reach the public market.

The Columbus Machine Manufacturing Company was involved in commercial litigation in Illinois, and hired Lincoln to serve as a local defense counsel in these proceedings. Lincoln represented the company in several high-profile cases in the Illinois Supreme Court. The cases largely dealt with debt collections, promissory notes, and property disputes on the judicial circuit.

Before becoming President Abraham Lincoln worked as a lawyer, often defending ordinary people in court and earning a reputation for honesty and fairness while traveling between towns, "riding the circuit" on horseback. Lincoln quickly became one of the most active regulars on the circuit often joining counsel with local lawyers.

Document measures appx. 6" h x 7" w inside 10" x 13" encapsulate, and exhibits typical wear consistent with age, use, display and handling including stains and toning. Some instances of "Newton's Rings", (a harmless byproduct of the PSA/DNA encapsulation process resulting in "bubbles") as seen in the slab.
