Legendary 16th President of the United States, ABRAHAM LINCOLN early, lengthy legal writ of execution, one page/2 sides, issued by the Circuit Court for Sangamon County for an unpaid debt, circa 1842 signed at conclusion, "Logan + Lincoln, p.q.".
The document is filled out in secretarial hand(s) with only the signature line signed by Lincoln on behalf of himself and law partner Stephen T. Logan. In it, the court is directing the sheriff to seize property from the defendant, George N. Weber to satisfy a debt.
Before becoming President, Lincoln worked as a lawyer, often defending ordinary people in court and earning a reputation for honesty and fairness. In 1841, Abraham Lincoln entered into partnership with Stephen T. Logan after leaving the firm of Stuart & Lincoln. The law firm Logan & Lincoln existed from 1841–1844.
