1847 was an important year for Lincoln having just won a Congressional seat, however his opposition to the Mexican War and anti-administration speeches soon made him unpopular with his constituents. Feeling that he had no future in politics, Lincoln soon returned to the dusty roads of the Eighth Circuit to regain the friends and clients he had lost while in Congress.
