My Dear Govnr'

You may possibly have seen from the papers that I do not visit Vermont as expected; at least for the present. This will prevent my accepting your kind invitation to visit Concord. At the earnest invitation of our friends here I have committed to visit some of the cities in the interior of this state, when political meetings are to be held next week. If I can do any good for the cause I want to do it, though I do not appreciate my services in a political way as some of my friends seem to.

Condition consistent with age, use, handling and wear, as shown. Some spreading to the signature from wet ink as Grant wrote the letter; separations to paper at folds have been mended to the highest archival standards. Scattered foxing.
