Legendary author, outdoorsman and journalist, ERNEST HEMINGWAY autograph handwritten Air Mail envelope from Finca Vigia, San Francisco de Paula, Cuba dated November 9, 1959. Hemingway signs his name on the back of the envelope he hand addressed to "N.M. Davis Esq. / Apartado 67 / Malaga / Espana".
Fascinatingly, although the letter itself is no longer present, there is in fact some ink transfer of Hemingway's handwriting within, likely from the envelope being damp during transit.
Hemingway spent significant time in Malaga, Spain during the late 50s, particularly in 1959, while staying at the estate of his wealthy American friend, Nathan "Bill" Davis while covering the bullfighting scene. The material gathered here during this time became the basis for Hemingway's posthumously published book, The Dangerous Summer.
Additional notations to front in unknown hand, possibly Davis', indicating "Mary's [Hemingway's] apt. early Jan / 1 E 62nd".
The envelope was mailed from Hemingway's home in Cuba where he wrote some of his most acclaimed books such as: The Old Man and the Sea and For Whom the Bell Tolls.
