Legendary author, outdoorsman and journalist, ERNEST HEMINGWAY fantastic, dramatic photograph of his fabled fishing vessel, Pilar with his humorous handwritten inscription – in Spanish: "T'as Visto Esta Barco?" ("Have You Seen This Boat?") and signed simply with his initials as, "EH".
Pilar was Hemingway's beloved 38-foot fishing vessel, frequently used for fishing in Key West and in the Gulf Stream off the Cuban Coast. Pilar was docked at Cojimar, a small fishing village east of Havana. Gregorio Fuentes , who skippered the fabled fishing boat for more than 20 years is said to have been Hemingway's inspiration for the embattled fisherman in "The Old Man and the Sea". Pilar is now a permanent part of the Hemingway home Finca Vigia museum in San Francisco de Paula, Cuba.
