The Fitzgerald book originates from the famed Barry Humphries collection as indicated by the bookplate). Humphries was described as a "Book Collector Extraordinaire", and a self-proclaimed "bibliomaniac" with a collection at one point believed to be more than 25,000 volumes.
Fitzgerald achieved fame almost overnight with the 1920 publication of his daring first novel. The book which draws heavily upon his years at Princeton, tells the story of a young man's quest for fulfillment in love and career with its portrayal of Jazz-age excess.
Widely considered one of the greatest authors of the 20th century, Fitzgerald is also among the scarcest and most highly sought after literary autographs, having died at the relatively young age of just 44 years old. Additionally, while Fitzgerald achieved popular success during his lifetime, it wasn't until after his death that he achieved critical acclaim and widespread popularity.
