$1,095.00
Guaranteed Authentic
32nd President of the United States, FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT typed letter signed on embossed Assistant Secretary of the Navy letterhead, from Washington, July 30, 1920 to George Barnett, the former Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps. Signed at conclusion with a striking, early full signature of the 38-year old Roosevelt. FDR offers his friendship and support, but delays a visit.
At the time of FDR's letter, Barnett, a highly decorated military veteran, had only recently been relieved as Commandant – the victim of bitter political infighting – by order of Secretary of the Navy Josephus Daniels. He spent the balance of his remaining years of his active service as Commanding General of the Department of the Pacific.
