GEORGE WASHINGTON * Authentic MOUNT VERNON Wood Artifact Relic * 1859

Small antique circular artifact manufactured from wood grown on Washington’s Mount Vernon estate, measuring appx. 3.25″ in diameter, circa 1859, and bearing an encapsulated engraved portrait of Washington and his mansion on the front. 

The original label affixed to reverse which has since deteriorated stated:

“Washington, D.C., 14th Nov. 1859, I hereby certify that the picture-frame stamped From Mount Vernon, J. Crutchett, (to which this is attached), was manufactured at the ‘Mount Vernon Factory’ from wood grown at Mount Vernon, the home and resting-place of the immortal George Washington.”

The original label also made mention of additional certificates from the proprietor of Mount Vernon, John A. Washington, and the mayor of Washington, DC which are no longer present with the 165+ year old artifact.

Condition is as shown, with wear and toning to the original descriptive label on the reverse and discoloration at edges to encapsulated engraving.
