JAPAN'S 'PEARL HARBOR' GENERAL SCARCE AUTOGRAPH SIGNED IN BOTH ENGLISH AND JAPANESE
General of the Japanese Imperial Army and 40th Prime Minister of Japan during World War II, HIDEKI TOJO scarce autograph signed in both English and Japanese characters. A note at lower right indicates the autograph was "Presented to me, August 1947, Arnold Adler, NYC." In 1947, Tojo was incarcerated at Japan's Sugamo Prison pending his trial.
Further information about Arnold Adler is unknown. The autograph may likely have been sent via airmail from Japan to Adler in NYC.
To this day, Tojo's complicity in the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941 as well as his decision to go to war against the West have firmly intertwined his legacy with the Empire of Japan's warmongering brutality. Following his nation's surrender to the Allies in September 1945 he was arrested and convicted by an International Military Tribunal.
