JOHN ADAMS Signed Free Frank Envelope Autograph Signature President PSA

$5,500.00

Guaranteed Authentic

American Founding Father, patriot and President JOHN ADAMS free frank address leaf panel dated October 14 from Quincy, MA to Miss Harriet Welsh, Sudbury Street, Boston. Adams signs at left as "J. Adams" and adds, "Free" at upper right. While the address has faded somewhat with the passage of time, Adams' signature remains bold and clear.

Welsh was a relative of Adams who lived in nearby Boston and acted as his occasional secretary in his later years assisting with notes, transcription, correspondence, and manuscripts.

Before modern postage systems, presidents and other officials had the privilege of "franking" mail—signing the envelope in place of a stamp—to communicate official matters for free. These signed envelopes are now highly collectible because they contain the authentic signature of the president and are often tied to historical correspondence.
