American Founding Father JOHN HANCOCK authentic, partly printed ship’s manifest document written entirely in his own hand and signed as “Thomas Hancock” by the then 25-year old fledgling partner on behalf of his Uncle’s “House of Hancock” mercantile business. Nearly 60 words, characters and flourishes entirely in Hancock’s flowing script.
Dated "Boston, June 28, 1762", Hancock has also written the Ship's cargo in the blank left margin. Hancock ships "26 Bundles of Hay" on the authorization of Sir Jeffery Amherst, Crown Governor of Virginia, an officer in the British Army and later Commander-in-Chief of the Forces. Before the American Revolution, the Boston merchant firm of Thomas and John Hancock held lucrative contracts to supply the British Army in North America. Acting under orders from Amherst, the Hancock's coordinated maritime logistics and shipping for British troops and their supplies.
We are unable to identify why PSA/DNA authenticated this particular document as "(Double)" since there is only one Hancock signature. Nevertheless, a fantastic document with several examples of Hancock's distinctive script "H" contained within.
