Founder of the Cubist movement and one of the most influential artists in history, PABLO PICASSO, scarce handwritten letter to his friend and financial advisor Max Pellequer, dated April 1953 and signed at conclusion with his famous signature with dramatic underscore, as simply "Picasso". Picasso adds a playfully dramatic "P A R I S" in the text of his letter.
Max Pellequer was a French banker and collector who assembled an important collection of modernist artworks in the 1920s and 1930s, including a number of significant early works by Picasso.

Picasso writes:
"Vallauris 20 April 1953
My dear Max,
I have to leave tomorrow at noon with the Mistral (express train) to Paris. I will not be able to come find you on Thursday in Nice as it was agreed upon in my last letter. I am really sorry. I don't know how many days I will be in Paris.
When will you return to Paris? You can write me there [at] 9 rue Gay-Lussac, PARIS 4th arrondissement
At your service, with all my regrets not [to be able] to see you right away.

Picasso lived in Vallauris from 1948 to 1955. During his time there, he produced a number of sculptures and paintings, including “War and Peace”, one of the period’s major works. Two techniques captured his imagination during this time: ceramics and lino-cutting. Today, Vallauris is home to the National Picasso Museum.
