Richard Nixon Excellent Baseball Signed While Serving as Vice President
U.S. President RICHARD NIXON signed baseball, obtained in 1959 during Nixon’s visit to Richard Nixon Elementary School in Yorba Linda, California, while serving as Vice President under Dwight D. Eisenhower and beginning his campaign for the 1960 Presidential election against John F. Kennedy. Boldly signed across the panel “Richard Nixon.”
According to the original recipient who we purchased the ball from, the signature was obtained when then Vice President Nixon visited the school in 1959, shortly before launching his campaign for the presidency. The student present that day had a baseball from a recent Los Angeles Dodgers game and asked Nixon to sign it during the visit.
The recipient recalls:
“I was in Richard Nixon Elementary School in Yorba Linda, CA (now the Nixon Library) in 1959 and Vice President Nixon visited us while beginning his run for President in the 1960 election against Kennedy. I had a ball from a recent Dodger game and he signed it for me.”
Richard Nixon (1913–1994) served as the 36th Vice President of the United States from 1953–1961 before later becoming the 37th President of the United States (1969–1974). Raised in nearby Yorba Linda, Nixon maintained strong ties to the area, and the school where this autograph was obtained is today the site of the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum.
