The photograph was taken during Ronald Reagan's meeting with Margaret Thatcher in the House of Commons, London, on November 28, 1978, prior to either becoming President or Prime Minister. At the time, Thatcher was the Leader of the Opposition party and Reagan was a former California governor preparing for his 1980 Presidential bid. Reagan was widely viewed as the leading Republican Presidential candidate. The shared ideological affinity, political partnership, and lasting friendship forged by both Thatcher and Reagan would span the rest of their lives.
