Filmed on behalf of Republican Presidential candidate Barry Goldwater, the nationally televised speech was electrifying, and the Republican party targeted Reagan as a candidate from that point forward. In 1966, he agreed to run for Governor of California. He would go on to win two terms, and eventually the Presidency.
