American writer and humorist SAMUEL L. CLEMENS striking oversized Charles Barmore (20" x 26") Limited Edition etched portrait boldly signed in pencil, "Mark Twain" and countersigned by artist Otto Schneider, in original antique matted display. One of just 100 such etchings produced, and one of only 20 or so said to have been signed by Twain. It was intended that Twain was to have signed the entire issue, but ultimately only 20 were signed due to the famously cantankerous condition of the eminent author. An exceptional signed piece, suitable for framing.
Charles Barmore gained renown for his impressive, often oversized limited editions of etchings, mezzotints, or line engravings of statesmen, heroes, eminent jurists and authors – including Twain. Schneider's 1906 half-length portrait of Twain, based on a photograph by J. G. Gessford, portrays the author at the height of his fame.
Of the available Limited Edition prints produced of Twain, it is unknown how many still remain. Notably, the Morgan Library retains a signed copy of this distinguished signed print in their collection, as well.

Twain was widely celebrated as the "greatest humorist the United States has produced", with author William Faulkner calling him "the father of American Literature".
