THEODORE ROOSEVELT BEAUTIFUL APPOINTMENT SIGNED AS PRESIDENT JUST MONTHS INTO HIS WORLDWIDE DISPLAY OF U.S. NAVAL SUPREMACY
Legendary 26th President of the United States THEODORE ROOSEVELT hand-signed Naval Commission signed by Roosevelt with a full signature at lower right as POTUS. The naval commission appoints Harry A. Giltner to the rank of "Assistant Surgeon, the Navy, with the rank of Lieutenant, junior grade". Signed by Roosevelt September 15, 1908 and additionally signed by the Secretary of the Navy, V.H. Metcalf. Blue seal to the lower left remains fully intact.
Notably, Roosevelt himself served as Assistant Secretary of the Navy and cared deeply about it, signing this document just months into his "Great White Fleet" World Tour – a monumental show of American naval supremacy where 16 battleships sailed around the world to assert the US as the dominant naval force.
Giltner would retire from Naval service as Lieutenant Commander, Medical Corps., and is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
