American Secretary of State during the Lincoln and Johnson administrations, WILLIAM H. SEWARD undated, authentic autograph cut signature removed from an official document, likely a Diplomatic Appointment, signed as Secretary of State. Signature is noted as in faded condition – ideal for the budget-conscious collector.

Seward served as the Secretary of State under Lincoln throughout the Civil War and was one of the targets of the 1865 assassination plot that killed Lincoln, although Seward was gravely injured he managed to survive. Seward continued to serve as Secretary of State under President Andrew Johnson, engineering the Alaska Purchase in 1867.
