American explorer best known for his part in the LEWIS & CLARK expedition, WILLIAM CLARK, practically non-existent handwritten letter with the only full signature example ever being offered for public sale and an additional in-text signature as "Clark". The letter is dated just days after Clark had first met with Thomas Jefferson and Meriwether Lewis in Washington, DC. Clark writes to his attorney "John Thompson Mason" regarding the case "Bazidone vs. Clark".
The case Bazidone vs. Clark was in regard to supplies which Clark's brother George Rogers Clark had illegally confiscated during the revolutionary war. Although the Clarks were prominent landholders they were constantly fighting George's legal battles, the Brazidone case was one of three major actions against the family at the time. The job of settling the lawsuits fell to William Clark who spent many years fighting for his brother. Even on the eve of his departure for the Lewis and Clark expedition, William Clark was still attempting to settle the Bazidone case.
