7th President of the United States ANDREW JACKSON (1767 - 1845) authentic, rare and remarkable handwritten 3-page autograph letter WRITTEN AS PRESIDENT dated July 10, 1836 signed in the third-person as "THE PRESIDENT" and initialed at conclusion as "AJ".

 

Includes separate address leaf all in Jackson's hand. Over 100 words in Jackson's distinctive scrawl.

 

In the letter, the President requests the exchange of bills for gold to be used for traveling expenses, as "we have to travel thru so many states before we return that it will be a great convenience to have gold..."

 

ANDREW JACKSON was the seventh President of the United States. Jackson gained national fame through his role in the War of 1812, where he won decisive victories over the Indians and then over the main British invasion army at the Battle of New Orleans. Jackson was appointed commander of the Tennessee militia in 1801, with the rank of colonel. He was later elected Major General of the Tennessee militia in 1802.
