LINCOLN GRANTS A HOLIDAY TO WHITE HOUSE STAFF ONE DAY AFTER HIS HISTORIC RE-ELECTION. Autograph obtained from the Lincoln Presidential Foundation!

A profoundly historic artifact from the heart of the American presidency: ABRAHAM LINCOLN, authentic handwritten signed note AS PRESIDENT on cardstock to B.B. French dated November 9, 1864. Lincoln grants White House staff a day off just one day after his historic re-election, and only 5 months before his assassination at Ford's Theater. A fascinating note from America's Civil War Commander-In-Chief that directly references the historic home of our Presidents and their families.

With excellent provenance! We obtained this note from the ABRAHAM LINCOLN PRESIDENTIAL FOUNDATION. The foundation was ultimately forced to sell off part of its collection to raise needed funds, this is one such item sold from their collection.

In full, Lincoln writes: "If Comr. of Public Buildings chooses to give laborers at White House, a holy-day, I have no objections A. Lincoln Nov. 9 1864."

Benjamin Brown French was a politician, Clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives, and Public Commissioner of Buildings in Washington, D.C.

Lincoln's re-election ensured that he would preside over the successful conclusion of the Civil War. Despite his own doubts about his prospects of winning another term, Lincoln handily defeated his opponent, former General George B. McClellan by a wide margin in the electoral college.
