1929 'National Air Tour to Ford Airport' cover signed by Albert Einstein, with associations to Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, and 'Light's Golden Jubilee'


Legendary theoretical physicist ALBERT EINSTEIN autographed uncommon ‘Air Mail’ envelope with stamped cachet for the “National Air Tour to Ford Airport Oct. 21, 1929,” postmarked at Greenfield, Michigan on October 21, 1929, signed on the reverse in fountain pen, “A. Einstein", with a small newspaper photo affixed below annotated "Prof. Albert Einstein / Berlin". 

The front of the envelope features an “Edison Celebration Light’s Golden Jubilee” stamp, affixed postage, and 'golden jubilee' emblems, the latter of which are also present on the reverse; Einstein sent congratulatory radio greetings to Edison from Berlin during the 'Golden Jubilee of Light' celebration. Hand denoted in red pencil as, "Via Airmail".

On October 21, 1929, Henry Ford hosted "Light's Golden Jubilee" from Greenfield, MI, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Edison's invention of the incandescent lamp. As part of the evening's program, guests including U.S. President Herbert Hoover listened to an account of Edison's re-enactment of the first successful lighting of his incandescent lamp as it took place in nearby Greenfield Village. Albert Einstein made congratulatory remarks via a radio broadcast from Berlin, Germany and Edison shared heartfelt remarks of appreciation.
