Legendary theoretical physicist ALBERT EINSTEIN autographed U.S. Postal Service Return Receipt postcard signed, "A. Einstein". Both the stamped cancellations and handwritten notation would indicate that this receipt is from late November/early December 1929. Einstein signs on the verso, indicating that the registered package sent from Chicago, IL was delivered to him in Berlin, Germany. We believe this package contained several commemorative covers which Einstein signed and returned to the same address.
The following year, in December 1930, Einstein would depart Germany to spend the first of three winter terms in the U.S. at Caltech (California Institute of Technology) as a visiting scientist before permanently leaving Europe and taking a position at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, NJ.
