Fleming signs the page with a handsome full signature and handwrites the date below. He would pass away less than a year later.

Fleming's breakthrough discovery in 1928 has been hailed as the "single greatest victory ever achieved over disease", and earned him a Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Fleming was knighted for his scientific achievements in 1944, and in 1999 was named to TIME magazine's list of the "100 Most Important People of the 20th Century".
