Canadian-American scientist, engineer, and telephone inventor ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL typewritten letter signed on his personal letterhead dated January 31, 1917 responding to an autograph request. 

Notably, Bell's letterhead lists his personal telephone number as "NORTH 166". "NORTH" would have been Bell's telephone exchange designation, identifying which switchboard served his area. The "166" part was his line number within that exchange.

Bell's research on hearing and speech further led him to experiment with hearing devices, which eventually culminated in his being awarded the first U.S. patent for the telephone, on March 7, 1876. He also co-founded the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T) in 1885.
