Famed American aviation pioneer AMELIA EARHART autographed Women Derby Flyers Air Mail cover postmarked August 20, 1929 from Columbus, Ohio. Earhart signs along the upper left-hand corner with a wonderful, full signature. Just one year earlier, in 1928, Earhart had just become the first woman to make a full transatlantic crossing.

However, the 1929 Derby status was hurriedly changed to "In Memory Of Marvel Crosson" – a pioneering female Alaskan bush pilot who died in a crash the day before the cover Earhart cover was postmarked. But all was not lost: the Derby women were also quick to take advantage of the attention the Derby provided, later forming a group of licensed women pilots, the "Ninety-Nines" – with Earhart as its first President.
