AMONG THE EARLIEST SIGNED JACKSON LAND GRANTS
7th President of the United States ANDREW JACKSON authentic autograph partly printed manuscript document signed as President, April 6, 1829 with intact embossed paper seal.
Land grant documents were signed by presidents in blank and then distributed to the local U.S. land offices to be filled in and dated as the land in their districts was purchased and paid for. This particular document was issued on April 6, 1829, a little more than one month after Jackson was inaugurated on March 4. Considering how slowly transportation moved from Washington to the frontier in the age before railroads, Jackson would have had to sign this in early March for it to arrive by the fill-in date of April 6. Thus, this is clearly from one of his earliest batches of grants – if not perhaps the earliest.
Jackson's signature measures slightly over 5.5" from end to end, a truly striking, early example of one of the newly-Inaugurated President's autograph.
The JACKSON signature has been thoroughly reviewed and CERTIFIED AUTHENTIC BY PSA/DNA EXPERT EXAMINATION – your assurance of absolute authenticity. UNCONDITIONALLY GUARANTEED GENUINE.
Condition is as shown with expected wear, toning, creases, folds and foxing. Document measures appx. 9.75" x 15".
