Santa Anna' signature and large flourish is mounted below a dramatic and desirable portrait of the flamboyant Mexican military leader and self-proclaimed "Napoleon of the West" over a battlefield background.The cut signature likely originates from a $500 bond issued while Santa Anna was living in exile, against real estate owned in Vera Cruz. While he schemed to depose Emperor Maximilian, he issued these bonds in hopes of regaining power. As a result, he was captured and sentenced to death.
