Official TYPE 1 first generation chromogenic 8" x 10" red-numbered NASA glossy print of a cropped view of APOLLO 11 Lunar Module EAGLE as it returned from the surface of the moon to dock with the command module "Columbia". A smooth mare area is visible on the moon below and a half-illuminated Earth hangs over the horizon. Command module pilot Michael Collins too this picture just before docking at 21:34:00 UT/5:34PM EDT July 21, 1969.
The NASA photograph, identified as "AS11-44-6643," identifies an official period lab print.
PSA defines TYPE 1 as a "1st generation photograph developed from the original negative, during the period of time (within approximately 2 years of when the picture was taken)." According to PSA, "Type 1 photographs are the most desirable and valuable of the four photograph types because of their vintage and originality."
These vintage prints were distributed in limited numbers to NASA and the press. This is certainly among the most collectible of the NASA red number photographs.
Condition is as shown. Item is in good condition with expected signs of age, wear, use and handling including toning, light scattered scuffs and unknown notation at lower left margin not affecting the image. Encapsulated by PSA as an authentic TYPE 1 photograph.
