EXTREMELY RARE PSA-AUTHENTICATED TYPE 2 AUTOGRAPHED INSURANCE COVER FOR THE FIRST MANNED LUNAR LANDING
Authentic autographed LAUNCH-DATED APOLLO 11 INSURANCE COVER boldly signed by the complete crew – NEIL ARMSTRONG, MICHAEL COLLINS and BUZZ ALDRIN. The Dow-Unicover with crew portraits honored the three "Project Apollo" crew members and the "First Step" of the "First Manned Lunar Landing" and was canceled July 16, 1969 from Kennedy Space Center.
With traditional life insurance unavailable to astronauts, these famous covers were signed by the crew during pre-launch quarantine and evenly distributed among the three astronauts families. In the event of a catastrophic failure during the mission that prevented the safe return of the crew, covers such as this could have been sold by the astronauts’ families to provide financial security. The Apollo 11 covers have earned near-legendary status as the ultimate space-related philatelic item – with this elusive 'Type 2' variant considered rarer than the 'Type 1' examples.
Excellent provenance, this cover is also accompanied by a vintage certificate of authenticity from noted Italian philatelist Alberto Bolaffi who originally sold this cover in 1984. Bolaffi acquired a number of insurance covers at the time and numbered his covers in pencil. This particular cover has been numbered "7/35" by Bolaffi.
