1947 BABE RUTH SINGLE-SIGNED BASEBALL THE YEAR BEFORE HE DIED
Baseball's legendary "Sultan of Swat" and legendary home run king, BABE RUTH authentic hand-signed baseball. Ruth signs directly in the sweet spot in black fountain pen. The ball is dated 1947 with an additional inscription at top in an unknown hand, presumably of a gift-giver; Ruth died the following year.
In 1947, Ruth would make one of his last public appearances at Yankee Stadium for a tribute called "Babe Ruth Day" on April 27. Ailing with terminal throat cancer, he was frail and weak. At his family's request, the doctors had not yet told Ruth he had cancer. He would return to Yankee Stadium just one last time on June, 13, 1948 to retire his number 3 jersey. Ruth died just 2 months later, in August 1948.
The Ruth ball was previously gifted "To Don-Boo from Grandpa 1947", as indicated by the additional handwritten inscription at top. The inscription is NOT in Ruth's hand.
