Williams, a left fielder and coach, played Major League Baseball from 1959 to 1976, almost entirely for the Chicago Cubs. A six time All-Star, the NL Rookie of the Year for 1961 and Sporting News Player of the Year in 1972 when he led the league with a .333 batting average while also hitting 37 home runs and driving in 122 runs. Williams was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1987.
