World War I American fighter pilot and Medal of Honor recipient Captain EDDIE RICKENBACKER autograph custom "94th Aero Squadron" AIR MAIL cover boldly signed in fountain pen at lower right as Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker. A reproduction image of the 94th Squadron/"Hat in the Ring" insignia patch has been affixed to the envelope.

As a fighter pilot, Rickenbacker was assigned to the 94th Aero Pursuit Squadron. With 26 aerial victories, he was the most successful and decorated United States flying ace of the World War I. 

Rickenbacker's 94th Aero Squadron was known informally as the "Hat in the Ring Squadron" – a name inspired by when the United States finally threw its hat into the ring and joined the war. Rickenbacker was fond of the design, featuring an upside down Uncle Sam's hat in a ring with the U.S. national colors.
