32nd President of the United States, FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT typewritten letter on WHITE HOUSE stationery signed as President, January 17, 1938 to Assistant Treasury Secretary Stephen Gibbons thanking him for "sending me the hat for Christmas...I am looking forward with real pleasure to wearing the hat...at Hyde park this summer".  Signed at conclusion with fine bold signature. The letter is accompanied by it's original White House envelope to Gibbons.

Like Roosevelt, Gibbons was also a victim of polio.  On the afternoon of May 24, 1958, Gibbons was “moving about without his leg braces,” in his NYC apartment according to The New York Times.  His wife May was in the kitchen shortly after noon, when she saw “her husband slipping out of the bedroom window.”  May rushed to the room, but was too late, and Gibbons plunged to his death.  Putting a less scandalous spin on the story, The New York Times reported that his “associates believed that he might have collapsed at the window” and accidentally tumbled out.

The FDR autograph letter has been thoroughly examined and CERTIFIED AUTHENTIC BY PSA/DNA EXPERT EXAMINATION, and encapsulated using PSA/DNA's proprietary sonically-sealed technology. UNCONDITIONALLY GUARANTEED GENUINE.

Condition as shown, with toning and midline mailing fold consistent with age, use and handling.  Letter measures appx. 7" x 9" inside appx. 10" x 13" sealed slab.

NOTE: several examples of "Newton's Ring" appear on the reverse side of the encapsulate (the rings that look like little air bubbles trapped inside) -- a common, harmless byproduct of the slabbing process of larger items, not affecting the autograph or printed image.
