32nd President of the United States, FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT typed letter signed on Navy Department letterhead. Signed in full and dated May 15, 1919. In the letter FDR writes to the granddaughter of Captain Arthur Sinclair to inform her she was chosen as the sponsor of Destroyer 275, which was to be named after her grandfather. Sponsors were a symbolic role typically given to women whose role was to christen the ship.
