Gen. GEORGE MARSHALL Autograph US ARMY ARC DE TRIOMPHE Stamp Sheet Signed * PSA
Guaranteed Authentic
American Army Officer and statesman, General GEORGE C. MARSHALL autographed 1945 3-cent stamp block featuring a procession of American troops marching through the Arc de Triomphe in Paris with overhead bombers. Issued to symbolize the liberation of France, Marshall boldly signs along the blank side.
Marshall rose through the Army ranks to become Chief of Staff under presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman, then served as Secretary of State and Secretary of Defense under Truman. Winston Churchill credited Marshall as the "organizer of victory" for his leadership of the Allies in WWII. As Secretary of State, Marshall advocated for a U.S. commitment to post-war European recovery, in what became know as the Marshall Plan. In recognition of his work, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1953, the only Army general to ever receive the honor.
