22nd and 24th President of the United States, GROVER CLEVELAND 3-page handwritten autograph letter signed AS PRESIDENT, with original mailing envelope also in Cleveland's hand, marked "Personal". Written May 2nd and postmarked May 4, 1894 during Cleveland's second term as POTUS.


Writing to Professor James M. Pierce of Harvard University, Cleveland shares that the post of Secretary of Legation in St. Petersburgh is about to be vacated, and inquires if Prince's brother Herbert might be interested that the role which "furnishes a delightful way to a diplomatic career". The role pays $2625 per annum and Cleveland "take[s] it for granted he can speak French. This is perhaps absolutely essential..." Cleveland writes to Pierce for Herbert because "I don't know his address..."
