Perhaps the finest Helen Keller letter ever on her beloved teacher's own blindness: "the darkness that covers me has fallen upon her..."

American author, disability rights advocate and lecturer HELEN KELLER touching, deeply emotional typewritten letter signed on her relationship with her beloved teacher, ANNE SULLIVAN's own blindness. Keller signs with a large pencil signature at conclusion. After extensive research, we have identified only one other known copy of this letter, held by the American Foundation for the Blind, making this a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire such a significant piece of Helen Keller history.

In full:

"For fifty years Anne Sullivan Macy, my beloved teacher, has been the light in my life. Now she is ill and the darkness that covers me has fallen upon her; still the light of her love shines amid the encircling gloom, and we are happy."

Sullivan was often called the "Miracle Worker" for her ability to teach, guide and illuminate the world for Keller. Sullivan's vision had been severely damaged since childhood by trachoma, and despite surgeries that partially restored it, her eyesight gradually deteriorated again over the years until she was completely blind by her later adulthood. With Anne's health in decline, Keller issued the letter from the Doctor's Hospital in New York City in 1936. Sullivan died later that same year, with Keller holding her hand, after falling into a coma.
