Mathematician, physicist, astronomer and inventor, Sir ISAAC NEWTON exceedingly scarce full signature autograph partly printed Treasury Loan document signed December 24, 1718 as Master of the Mint. One page, 2 sides.
One of the very few complete Master of the Mint documents to ever come to market. Order number 600, this loan document is countersigned by Hopton Haynes, Newton's protégé, as the Mint's assayer and teller. With handwritten addenda over both sides, and additional signatures of John Aislabie as Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Baillie as Lord of the Treasury, and Treasury Official, William Clayton. Remnant of a wax seal at upper right corner.
The £200 was for the repayment of a loan to the Exchequer by Francis Hall, the son of another employee at the Mint. Signed at conclusion by Hall indicating repayment in full as of August 15, 1719.

Condition is as shown with expected wear, stains and blemishes consistent with age, use and handling of a 300+ year old document. Please review all images carefully for exact condition. Document measures 14.25" x 9.25". The Newton document has undergone a full, professional conservation by the Sr. Conservator at the National Archives. This included washing, deacidification, and mending areas of paper loss. This conservation ensures the document will be remain bold and beautiful for many years to come.
