Legendary English writer and renowned "Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" fantasy author J. R. R. TOLKIEN scarce and authentic GEM MINT 10 autograph typewritten letter on Tolkien's embossed personal letterhead dated March 23, 1967 declining an invitation as well as any additional projects. Boldly signed by Tolkien with a flawless black ink signature.
Notably, this is the only Tolkien autograph we've been able to locate graded in 10 condition from any authentication company. Almost certainly the highest grade Tolkien signature ever offered for sale.
Nicholas Salaman of the famed J. Walter Thompson ad agency had invited the reclusive author to give a talk on "The Magic of Power". In response Tolkien declined mentionung "I am too busy with my own work, and shall be for a long while", likely alluding to his intentions to finish his life-long work The Silmarillion.
PSA/DNA expert analysis has rated the Tolkien autograph with the highly coveted GEM MINT 10. Under PSA's exacting autograph grading standards a Gem Mint 10 example "is a virtually perfect autograph.
