POLK striking and exceptionally desirable 1839 Tennessee land grant, boldly signed by James Knox Polk as Governor of Tennessee, just years before his meteoric rise to the presidency. This document, numbered 1115, grants John Burk, Jr. and his heirs a tract of 150 acres in Bradley County, Tennessee.

Polk’s large, flowing signature appears prominently at the conclusion. Polk served as Governor of Tennessee from 1839 to 1841, a pivotal steppingstone to his eventual election as the 11th President of the United States. As President, Polk oversaw the annexation of Texas, the settlement of the Oregon boundary dispute, and the acquisition of vast western territories following the Mexican-American War.
